Fifth Wheeler Network tests on the Winegard wingman.
Australian RV Accessories, the importer of the Winegard Wingman, allowed Fifth Wheelers Australia to test the add on for the Winegard RV windup TV antenna, A simple and cost effective method that the Winegard company has bought onto the market to increase the UHF (digital) signal.
It was thought that the best place to carry out the tests was in the hilly Tasmania terrane where it is known that digital signals are at their worst.
The installation was very simple, where the hardest part was climbing the ladder to access the roof of the fifth wheeler. Using a plain screw driver to remove the existing rubber plugs from under the centre cover then lifting the new light weight wingman up to under the cover and lining up the holes in the wingman and the antenna cover where you removed the rubber plugs previously, Then you push in the supplied plastic plugs into the holes until they are tight. That is the installation over and done with.
The tests started where the fifth wheeler was camped 30 kms from the Stanley township and the nearest tower on the North West Coast, where past experienced had shown that only a weak digital signal could be received, not enough to show a picture.
Without the Wingman the signal strength showed 4 out of 10 on the televisions built in meter, which of course was not strong enough to show any picture. After the Wingman was installed the signal strength went up to 8, this gave a crystal clear picture.
All other tests carried out showed the same results, that the Wingman doubled the signalled strength by 100% which proves that all the literature put out by Winegard about the Wingman is correct. But be warned you have to have a weak signal in the first place; it will not give you a picture if you are in a position where there is not a signal in the first place.
Winguard wind-up TV antenna add-on (from news letter dated 04/06.2010)
Wendy and Jamie have just installed this add-on to their antenna and it has considerably improved the digital reception. They are in a fringe area of Brisbane. Before the add-on they could not get digital reception at all and had to rely on a somewhat dodgy analogue picture. Now with the add-on they have a great picture (through a standard definition set top box). It was a cinch to install.
